Transparent areas become white in JPG. Fit preserves aspect ratio; crop fills the exact width and height.

Fit and crop produce intentionally different results.

Fit inside dimensions keeps the original aspect ratio and treats width and height as bounds. A 4,000 by 2,000 photograph fitted inside 1,000 by 1,000 becomes 1,000 by 500, without stretching. Crop to exact dimensions fills both requested dimensions by discarding pixels from the edges. Choose the mode that matches your destination, then inspect the output dimensions rather than assuming both modes create the same image.

Choose a crop position that keeps the subject.

The center crop keeps the middle of the original. Top and bottom positions are useful when a portrait or document has important content near one edge. These are geometric crop positions, not automatic face detection. Check that a person’s head, a logo, or required writing remains visible in the result. The presets are convenient pixel dimensions, not a guarantee that every social platform or application form requires those settings.

Enlarging an image cannot restore missing detail.

By default, the fit mode does not enlarge a smaller source image. Enable enlargement only when a destination requires a larger pixel size. The browser interpolates additional pixels; it does not recover sharp detail from a tiny original. A larger output can therefore be softer and heavier than the source. Prefer a higher-resolution original when creating print material.

Pixel size is separate from upload size.

A 600 by 600 image can still exceed a portal’s file-size limit. After setting exact dimensions, use the compressor if the destination also specifies a KB limit. Disable automatic dimension reduction there to keep your resized dimensions intact. PNG is useful for sharp graphics and transparency, while JPEG and WebP can be smaller for photographs.
